Drifting Series
The human mind is not a video camera. It cannot accurately replay every moment in time after that moment has passed. Our memories are not always reliable, and they can often fail us. Many of our memories are manipulated as we grow and most of them, especially the early ones, start to fade away. My series Drifting focuses on this concept.
I use a variety of printmaking techniques in my work, most of which consist of etchings printed from copper plates and screenprints. I take imagery from my old family photographs that I manipulate through various etching techniques and processes. This manipulation of my own photographs illustrates how our minds manipulate our memories. Many of my figures appear ghostly and are often clouded by multiple printed layers, textures, and colors. This draws a parallel to how our memories get clouded and foggy as we grow older, which can change our perception of them over time.
